Cllr Howard Johnston
I have known Hunstanton all my life, and my wife Marie and I have been in our present home since 2014. We both believe that the town should be proud of the friendship it extends to all its residents and visitors, and being safe and outstandingly calm, the envy of many other towns. I have been in public life for almost six decades, including ten years as a regional newspaper editor from the late 1970s, spells in Fleet Street, and later as a publishing director of national consumer magazines before founding my own business in Peterborough. This introduced me to the wide spectrum of government and politics, ranging from parish councils to national government. The application of good practice has to be ambition for all of us.
I have been in the Rotary movement since 1981, with a commitment to putting service before self, and been flattered to be honoured with a Paul Harris Fellowship for outstanding community service, and have also been a Churchwarden at St Mary's, Old Hunstanton, and an active campaigner for reviving the King's Lynn-Hunstanton railway which should never have been taken away from us.
I can often be seen in that own raising money for the disadvantaged, and am a supporter of both local charities and the International Save the Children Fund.
