I spent most of my childhood summers in Hunstanton and enjoy many happy memories of time spent here with my family. Now I hope to use my personal and professional experience to make a positive contribution to the work of the Town Council in representing the local community, addressing local concerns and delivering services to meet local needs.
I worked for the European Union for almost 40 years – initially at the European Commission in Brussels and more recently at the European Medicines Agency in London, where I was responsible for internal communications and staff engagement. My team was committed to improving transparency of information and providing everyone with the means to voice their opinions. I am therefore particularly interested in the Council's Community engagement strategy and keen to help with its implementation and measurement, as well as contributing to development of the Neighbourhood Plan.
I believe that we, as a community, should work together on shaping the future of our town and look forward to discussing with you how best to do this. There are, of course, limitations as to how much control we have in certain areas but that should not inhibit us from exploring options. Before moving here I was Town Crier in a small market town, so I understand some of the potential frustrations of council workings, the need to be realistic and prepared to compromise - but also the need to champion the local community and celebrate every success, no matter how small.
Hunstanton's motto is "Alios delectare iuvat" which freely translates to "It is our pleasure to please others". It will be interesting to learn how that is put into practice in this beautiful corner of West Norfolk …
